C. Alex Young
Dr. Young is a NASA solar astrophysicist who studies space weather both within our solar system and beyond. He led NASA’s national education and outreach efforts for the August 2017 total solar eclipse. Currently, he serves as the Associate Director for Science in the Heliophysics Science Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and leads the NASA Space Science Education Consortium.
In this role, Dr. Young oversees and coordinates education and public outreach for both the Goddard Heliophysics Science Division and the Heliophysics Division at NASA Headquarters. He collaborates with education and outreach teams, acting as a liaison with NASA’s offices of Education and Communication, and works with scientists to promote and support their research.
Previously, Dr. Young was a senior support scientist for the SOHO and STEREO missions, and he served as Chief Observer for the Hinode mission. His research background includes high-energy astrophysics, astrostatistics, and data analytics.
